Switzerland

We spent a few days in Switzerland exploring Iseltwald, Interlaken, Grindelwald and Zurich. The Swiss Alps in the summer were beautiful – the perfect blend of green valleys, alpine lakes and snow-capped mountains.

As stunning as Switzerland is, it was a tough act to follow after the Dolomites. Our time here didn’t go exactly as planned – Interlaken and Grindelwald were much busier and more touristy than expected. With limited time, I’m sure we missed some of the quieter, hidden spots that would’ve made for a dreamy Pinterest board. If I ever go back, I’d focus more on exploring the smaller villages and towns.

Nevertheless, I’m excited to share my highlights and recommendations from the trip. Mountains, green hills and wildflowers will always feel so magical to me.

Oeschinen Lake

The Oeschinensee Panorama Hike was less challenging than expected. I’d seen this lake all over Instagram, and in real life, it was just as blue and sometimes iridescent depending on the light.

We did the hike clockwise, which seems to be the recommended route. Once you reach the top, there’s a small restaurant where you can grab a drink or light snack – though I’d definitely recommend bringing your own packed lunch if you want something more substantial. The hardest part of the trail was actually the descent – there was an unexpected uphill stretch on the road leading back to the cable car.

Strangely enough, we somehow missed the iconic Instagram spot with the two trees on a little hill, even though we stopped and took photos at all the usual viewpoints where others were gathered. Still, the experience itself was unforgettable.

Iseltwald

Iseltwald is a small village about 15 minutes from Interlaken. Admittedly, we wanted to go here after being fans of the Korean drama, Crash Landing on You. The jetty, one of the show’s most famous filming locations, is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset. This village served as a perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas.

There aren’t many restaurants in Iseltwald, so we usually drove to Interlaken for dinner. Interlaken has plenty of gluten-free options, but two places I’d recommend are Bun Brothers for Vietnamese food, and The Pasta Store, which serves a great bolognese

Grindelwald

In Grindelwald, we simply did the Lake Bachalpsee hike which begins at First. When we went, it was quite cloudy, so the lake wasn’t its usual blue and mountain views were mostly obscured. Still, it was a worthwhile experience, and the hike itself wasn’t too challenging.

As for food, I recommend Ristorante Da Salvi, which serves a delicious gluten-free rocket (rucola) pizza, and Kringle, for their hojicha latte and aesthetic vibes.

Lauterbrunnen

Lauterbrunnen is another small charming village, and we visited mainly for this iconic photo spot. It’s quite popular, so it can get pretty busy. To reach this viewpoint, I followed instructions from Happy to Wonder. You can also search “Staubbachfall Viewpoint” on Google Maps – it’s just down a path across the Airtime Cafe.

Zurich

Our time in Switzerland concluded in Zurich. One of my favourite spots was Lindenhof Hill, which offers a stunning panoramic view over the city’s rooftops and river below.

Zurich has no shortage of cool restaurants and cafés. I especially enjoyed Co Chin Chin, a cozy Vietnamese spot where the staff are happy to recommend dishes that suit your dietary needs. Another favourite was Zufreeden Gluten-free Café & Bakery – their quiche and cinnamon cake were both amazing.

I’m not usually a big chocolate person, but the brand Laderach has won me over. The raspberry & blackberry and hazelnut flavours were especially delicious.

Switzerland was a peaceful escape – from serene lakeside villages to breathtaking alpine hikes and vibrant city life. Each place had its own charm, and I hope these highlights help you plan your own unforgettable trip.
