Winter is approaching. The nights are colder and it is often hard to get up in the mornings. I was meant to upload a recipe before this blogpost, but things do not always work out as planned.
I had leftover egg whites and decided to make some coffee macarons. Macarons are notoriously difficult with many different methods (French, Italian or Swiss). The recipe still needs some adjusting as I was not happy with the texture of the shells.
This earl grey chiffon cake is a variation of a previous recipe and inspired by What to Cook Today. I simply heated the milk until simmering and added four earl grey tea bags. This was left to infuse for about 10 minutes. The teabags will absorb some of the milk, so you want top it up to ensure the volume is still equal to 110ml. The tea flavour was subtle and I still prefer a plain vanilla chiffon. Nevertheless, it was interesting to try something a little diffferent.
Empire Revival is a beautiful antique store in Paddington. I love these blue and white ceramics, as well as their vintage glassware and cutlery. There are so many unique pieces and it is definitely worth visiting!
Tzatziki is one of my favourite dips and I recommend this recipe by Cookie and Kate. I eyeballed the quantities and added some cracked black pepper.
To serve with the tzatziki, I made these gluten-free buckwheat crackers. I usually make half the recipe, and have to add a lot more water to reach the right consistency. I also forgo the pumpkin seeds and fennel, and like them super dark and toasty.
As usual, a quick round-up of some other cool finds from the week:
- I love the song Tenuousness by Andrew Bird. He is one of my favourite artists.
- Donna Hay posted this beautiful yet simple cake decorating technique on Instagram. She melted white chocolate and wrapped it around the cake to create a shell.
- Alex and Trahanas is a lifestyle store that sells handmade ceramics from Puglia, Italy. I really like this wave bowl and white scalloped plate.
- One of my favourite TV shows is a Korean drama on Netflix called Crash Landing on You. There is a beautiful quote mentioned in one the episodes from an Indian Proverb, “Sometimes the wrong train takes you to the right destination.” I love how the show depicts fate and friendship.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful week!
